Classes

Student Classes

Every student will have a daily masterclass, group repertoire/technique class, pop class, Dalcroze class, and an enrichment class.

Enrichment Classes:

Arts & Crafts:

Always a favorite class at institute!  We are so excited to have Brooke Smart teaching this year, a talented artist and illustrator who recently worked on the Christmas Window installation at the Grand America Hotel.  She will be helping the students create different projects every day!

Positive Performance Practice (age 12 and up):

Positive Performance Practice is a series of interactive workshops designed to soften performance anxiety and amplify authentic self-expression through confidence-building practices, mindfulness, and playful adversity training.  Participants of all levels will have opportunities to practice and build upon these performance techniques in a supportive masterclass setting led by Grace Browning, a seasoned performing artist. coach, and first-hand anxiety expert!

Bucket Drumming:

Junk drumming with Nate Anderson from Trash Panda Drum Group!  Explore the world of rhythm around us through drumming on everyday objects including buckets and trash cans!  Experience rhythm, improvisation, call and response, song form, and music theory in a new and fun way.

Harp Percussion (with Amy Turk):

Expand your knowledge of the harp! Explore percussion and extended techniques that anyone can learn, and discover how to incorporate these into your playing. From creating drum sounds, adding finger clicks and sweeps, to muting, strumming and tapping, this skill set will help you to see your harp in a whole new light, play more styles of music than ever before, and create music of your own.

What is the difference between an Auditor and a Participant?

Auditor or Participant:  The tuition fee is the same for both participants and auditors. Auditor status is appropriate when a teacher is unable to meet the course’s attendance, observation or audition requirements. The auditor may play in class only with the permission of the instructor and may not register the course with the Suzuki Association of the Americas. Auditors may only observe their registered teacher training class in addition to all student activities and concerts.

Auditors need to register as soon as possible to reserve a space in the designated class as class size is limited for all classes.
